On Januar 15, 2013, my lovely kitty, Shila, died in her sleep. She had been ill for some days and since she was nearly 18 yrs old we expected that it wouldn't be long. She was the best cat anyone could wish for .... I was always amazed at how clever she was and you could look her in the eye and tell she could THINK, just like humans.
I miss her approaching me when I come home. And when I think about her last days, I start crying as if she was a child I had lost (ok, in some ways she was ... pets can definitely become adapted family members, and are often emotionally closer then some family members). No, I won't get a new cat.... any cat would just get compaired to Shila and none can compare!
This is one of my favorite pictures of her, when she still had two eyes (we had to remove the left one in December 2012).
"Helping" me do a puzzle..... 2012
She died while sleeping in her favorite basket....
In other news..... 2012 was a year of so many changes that I need to write a dozen entries to get you guys up-dated! Maybe some day I'll get the blogging mood again. I just hope that 2013 will be a bit more relaxing..... but knowing my life, it won't be!
Dorrie
I'm so sorry. Pets are part of our family. She was lucky to have you as her Mum. My girl cat in England died on New Years Day, she was nearly 18 too. My friend adopted her when I moved.
ReplyDeleteEighteen years is a very long life for a cat and many good memories
ReplyDeleteBagpuss good to see you again
So sorry that you lost Shila. She lived a good long life but that is not much consolation when you miss them so. I love it that you posted again. Sometimes it is hard to keep blogging. I know the feeling and sometimes I think facebook has hurt the blogging world but it's still good to see you post when you can!
ReplyDeleteI completely understand how devestating it is to lose a pet. For us animal lovers they're more....they're family. Enjoy your memories with her, and look forward to the day when she'll be "there" to greet you. :)

Oh, I'm so sorry, Dorrie, I love my cat's and would terribly miss them.
ReplyDeleteI've never known a cat however, to live nearly eighteen years.. (whoa..) what did you feed her?
The longevity is amazing.
Many-many hugs your way my friend.xo
Hi Dorrie. I'm sorry about Shila. Barq lives with my ex and he's 15 or 16 so his time must be soon.
ReplyDeleteStop being so busy and write :-)

That's a long time for a cat and she certainly lived a good long life. Saddened to hear of her passing.
ReplyDeleteDear Dorrie ~ ((hugs)) so sorry your long time kitty-cat friend has gone to kitty heaven. Shila was a beautiful and intuitive cat !
ReplyDeleteI just decided to pop over, after posting a real blog post, as I'm not into blogging hardly at all anymore either. I even slowed down with my fave SingSnap singing site. Been there 6 years this August.
Just had my chemo inject and went to the market on my way back. Now I need to go out again! My meds are ready at another marketplace. I have a ride both times with my new friend, Jim, though, so no buses to hop !
Ohh yes....seems the more time we have ( re : retirment) the more stuff we have to do ! Thinking of you always, Sunny, Hugs!
I miss reading your blog get well soon.
ReplyDeletePraying for your healing ever day
So very sorry to hear about all the hardship you've experienced since we last connected on JS :-(
ReplyDeleteI recently saw an awesome documentary (WINGS OF HOPE) about a brave woman that was the only survivor of a plane crash. It really touched my heart and soul.
I also lost my much loved companion pet this year: it really is like losing a child *hugs*
